Kew
The owners of this detached house had worked abroad for many years, and were now returning to the UK to settle. The house, just near Kew gardens was completely refurbished and extended to make a comfortable new home. The garden is north facing at the back, and a number of requests were incorporated in to the new design layout. A shed was incorporated behind slatted trellis with a gate to one side which also housed compost bins and garden tools, a small vegetable growing area and raised beds created a series of interesting growing areas to maximise the light. In the front, the pattern of the basalt black setts echoes the original detailing on the inner porch, together with a black and red clay paver path, which matched the original section of pavers.
What our client had to say:
“We bought a Victorian house that needed extensive refurbishment, with a garden that needed a complete revamp.
Our brief to Emma was a garden that looked good and was easy to maintain, with different areas to sit in and space for our grandchildren to play.
Emma was excellent at putting ideas into a coherent form and coming up with options for the layouts, as well as proposed materials for the hard landscaping, and a planting scheme. We had enjoyable sessions discussing what we liked in each and eventually settled on a final scheme. Emma produced a comprehensive set of tender documents, organised the tendering process, and then managed the contractor who carried out all the work, except for the planting. Emma herself carried out the planting, with help from Liz.
We have now gone through a complete year and we are delighted with the result. We had a good idea how well the layout would work, and it certainly has, but we are thrilled with the plants, as the garden looks good at all times of the year. Emma has been back several times to offer advice and continues to be involved with the garden.
We have no hesitation in recommending her.”
