This beautiful contemporary timber clad house was set within several acres of land in a conservation area. The garden comprised several areas, including an internal courtyard, roof terrace, paddock, formal gardens and a natural swimming pool.
The garden was tree and shrub dominant, and a fresh approach was needed to bring structural evergreen planting together with herbaceous plants and bulbs.
The approach to the design was based on strong blocks of site specific planting, interspersed with simple blocks of low structural planting.
New British native woodland was planted in the paddock area to encourage wildlife and other trees and multi stemmed shrubs were added and under planted with Cornus to provide colour during the winter months.
What our client had to say:
“Emma came to us highly recommended, and we would not hesitate to second the recommendation! Her brief was to come up with a design for a modern new build house in a rural setting, while incorporating existing trees and shrubs. We are delighted with the plan she devised, which perfectly complements the setting and the house; and her comprehensive knowledge of plants has ensured that we have colour and structural interest throughout the year.
Emma has excellent communication and listening skills; she interpreted our ideas and involved us at every stage of the design process. We appreciated her meticulous attention to detail, and her highly organised and efficient approach. She also arranged and co-ordinated lighting, irrigation and construction, and dealt promptly and effectively with any problems. She continues to be involved with the garden, giving advice and helping with maintenance.”
